Hardscrabble Gifts: Candles, Art and Giardiniera
Bitty Giant Candles are now available at Hardscrabble Gifts, LLC in the Bridgeport Chicago neighborhood. While I stopped in to drop of these most desired little candles, I made some small talk with owner Leanne Scanlon. I asked her how she was doing with her business and before responding she was in the midst of smelling Gnome Home, "Oh man I love this one!" She said she doing quite alright and recovering from the very successful Festa Italiana in Chicago's Little Italy.
I asked her about some of her current favorites in the store. She said they are Cousin Vinnie's homemade giardiniera, which looked quite amazing. Besides making delicious looking giardiniera, Vinnie Hickey is also a stand-up comedian. Whaddya know?! He is playing at Cigar's and Stripes in Berwyn this Saturday @ 10pm.
Leanne also loves artist Vidma Wait who has a gorgeous piece of the Chicago skyline in the front window display at Hardscrabble. Besides the canvassed pieces, Leanne has an extensive collection of ceramic animals made by Wait as well. These little critters are quite charming and will melt your heart. Perfect gifts for animal lovers or those who love little something special for their garden.
As Leanne bounced around her store showing all the goods in her store; I came across artist Laurie Freivogel who creates beautiful fused glass art. Her studio named Kiku Handmade has a variety of trivets, coasters, bowls and catch-alls. Definitely caught my eyes.
